If there is a common aspiration for compassionate people, for non-profit organizations, and for governments, it might be this: To make life better. How to do that, however, is not so easily agreed upon. There is one way to improve life for all of the world’s people, though: Education.

Why Education Matters in India

Education is the foundation for building a prosperous and sustainable society. In vulnerable societies, poor infrastructure, lack of qualified teachers, and inadequate funding make educating the masses difficult. As people that serve the children of India, the most populous country on earth, we understand these challenges and fight against them constantly.

Thankfully, the Indian government understands these challenges as well. They have taken several measures to provide access to education for all their children. The Right to Education Act (2009) in India recognizes education as a fundamental right. Programs such as Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Mid-Day Meal Scheme, and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan, promote education all over the country.

However, India is a vast and complex country. It is not easy to ensure that all children, in every village and strata of society, have access to a quality education.

This is where nonprofit organizations like DFN (Dignity Freedom Network) play a crucial role in bridging the gap, providing quality education to the underprivileged and remote communities in India.

DFN is a nonprofit organization that aims to provide quality education to children from underprivileged sections of society in India. We have been working in India for more than two decades and have made a significant impact in the lives of over 100,000 children. Our national imprint through education and other programs is over 15 Million!

Our schools do more than teach ABCs and 123s. They provide nutrition and healthcare as well. These services are free and serve the whole family, often providing a lifeline that stabilizes the family and brings health and healing.

Our school administrators and teachers work closely with local communities and collaborate with government agencies to provide quality education to children. Our schools provide a safe and nurturing environment for children to learn and grow. We promote gender equality and empower women through vocational training programs, including computer training, tailoring, and carpentry.

Bottom line: Education is a fundamental right.

It’s crucial for the freedom and development of all people. Education is a means to achieve social and economic mobility. Education is a tool to break the vicious cycle of poverty and provide equal opportunities for all individuals. At its best, education empowers individuals, promotes gender equality, reduces social inequality, and promotes economic growth.

We must continue to fight for the future of children. By working together, we can ensure that every child in India has access to quality education. That education will change their life, forever.

You can be part of changing a life forever in two ways:

  1. Join Promise, our team of monthly partners who ensure children and families have access to quality education, healthcare, and skills training.
  2. Make a back to school donation to supply teachers and students with the supplies they need for a successful year.

At DFN, every gift matters.

Because every life matters.
