Supporting MNK Village:
In the heart of one of India’s largest cities lies a densely packed slum marked by extreme poverty and severe discrimination. During COVID-19, residents were locked in, unable to leave for jobs or food because outsiders believed they would contaminate the city around them.
Despite these hardships, a beacon of hope shines. DFN runs a vibrant faith-based school, a top-notch clinic, and a women’s skills training program. DFN community health workers also work with the government to provide 30-day food kits and stabilize families in crisis.
Future plans include expanding the school, which is bursting at the seams, and establishing a paramedical college to create new opportunities for residents.

How your Promise changes a whole community:

Meet Harini, Aditi, and Saachi. They live in the MNK slum, fatherless and with an unskilled, unemployed mom. A few years ago, the sisters were climbing through dumpsters and walking the streets looking for bits of paper and plastic they could turn into rupees.
By mid-afternoon, they’d find themselves on the streets begging, and by nightfall, they were back in MNK where they may have had to sell their bodies to make a few more rupees.
When they finally lay their heads down to rest, their little bones were too sore to turn over and their souls too wounded to dream.
But not anymore! Now their day begins with breakfast before they head out to school in clean, sharply pressed uniforms. Their Mom has completed a tailoring course at the DFN skills center.
With one promise to one little family, the life trajectory of three little girls is changed forever.
+++Our stories are real. We change names and identifying details to protect the dignity of those we serve.
