UDM, a village of 3000 people, is home to day laborers striving to make ends meet. Families face the constant challenges of poverty and limited opportunities. 

Because of DFN, UDM has become a vital hub for 15 nearby communities. Change is fostered through DFN’s local school, the only private, faith-based, English-medium school in the area. Through awareness campaigns, vulnerable women and children are protected from child marriage and exploitation. 

Plans are underway to expand healthcare access and skills training programs to empower women that will expand hope and opportunity for an entire region.

How your Promise changes a whole community:

Zaina is like any other little girl. She loves to play. She adores her mom and longs to be like her. Often, her mother has to send her outside to play when men appear at the door. NOTE: Daughters often share the same fate as their exploited mothers.

But not on our watch. DFN employs a host of community health workers in UDM who actively look for mothers and daughters living in desperate circumstances. One conversation with Zaina’s mom and her future took on a new possibility. She immediately enrolled her in the local DFN school.

Today, Zaina teaches other children to sing and write those same A, B, Cs she once learned. She also has a daughter of her own, to whom she has become the hero.
